Tom Cruise on the hunt for Horizons’ female lead
Every time Tom Cruise signs on for a role, he seems to have his pick from the cream of young, female talent to play opposite him.
It wasn’t long ago that Rosamund Pike beat of competition from Hayley Atwell and Alexa Davalos to star in One Shot, and it would appear that the competition for new film Horizons (formerly Oblivion) is even stiffer.
Five of today’s hottest actresses are lining up to test opposite the Cruiser…
Tron Legacy director spreads wings with sci-fi Archangel
Director Joseph Kosinski has been hired to direct New Regency’s sci-fi thriller Archangel. The Tron: Legacy filmmaker seems to be sticking with science-fiction after tackling the Tronverse, with his next directing gig expected to be Tom Cruise vehicle Horizons (otherwise known as Oblivion). Adam Cozad (The Gray Man) has signed on to write the screenplay for Archangel, which will follow a secret unit of the military that hunts down aliens on our planet.
Joseph Kosinksi talks Tron 3
Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinksi has revealed that a story for a third Tron movie is currently being ironed out ready for the scripting process. Kosinski’s visually ambitious sequel failed to entirely set the box office alight (it scraped back its $170m budget in US cinemas), while the critics weren’t impressed.
But a decent worldwide profit (near the $400m mark) means that Disney are considering continuing the franchise with a third entry. And Kosinski is pretty sure where the story goes from here.
“I think we will pick with where Tron: Legacy left off,” he reveals, “with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s that relationship between the two of them that’s the next step.”

Tron Legacy short The Next Day online
Tron Legacy wasn’t quite as critically well-received as Disney hoped it would be, but there’s no denying it’s an interesting curio with some ravishing visuals. It’s also heading onto DVD and Blu-ray pretty soon – and one of the Blu-ray’s extra features has just been released online via YouTube.
A 10 minute short entitled Tron: The Next Day, the bite-sized film bridges the gap between Tron and Tron Legacy, containing footage shot for the latter that never made the cut. The Next Day tracks the inception of the Flynn Lives organisation, and gives away Legacy’s ending. Spoiler alert and all that.
Jeff Bridges: Best Movie Roles
14) The Big Lebowski (1998)
The Role: Jeffrey Lebowski
Why It’s The Best: The defining role of Bridges’ illustrious career, and the one that will mean people forevermore refer to the actor as The Dude.
Jeff Says: “That film is such a wonderful, wonderful movie. It’s one of my favourites. I know I’m partial, but even if I wasn’t in the film it would still be one of my favourites. It’s a great movie to watch.
“I mean, every time you see it you see more detail and something that you missed last time. And then there’s these Lebowski fests. I went to one not too long ago and I had my Beatle moment and I got a little band together and played one of these fests.
“You know, played to a sea of Dudes, they’re all dressed up like The Dude… and bowling pins… they went crazy. I think it’s a wonderful thing that happened to Lebowski. When it first came out it wasn’t that successful but it’s gained success each year.”
