Armie Hammer will saddle up as the Lone Ranger

Social Network actor Armie Hammer has landed the lead role in Disney’s new movie version of The Lone Ranger.

After numerous casting rumours had suggested Ryan Gosling would be taking the role, Hammer was emerged as the victorious party – no doubt in part thanks to his stellar work in David Fincher’s film.

Based on the 1930s radio show and ‘40s TV series, Lone Ranger follows the titular hero and his sidekick Tonto, who combat injustice in the Old West.

Armie Hammer up for playing The Lone Ranger

The Social Network star Armie Hammer is currently in talks to join Johnny Depp in his film adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Hammer is interested in playing the titular ranger, the same role that Ryan Gosling previously flirted with before he was forced to bail thanks to scheduling conflicts. Depp has been attached to the film for some time, and will play Tonto, the Native American companion to the ranger.

Armie Hammer, who appeared as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, has spoken candidly about the requirements of his role in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic. Hammer is playing Clyde Tolson, an associate, and rumoured gay lover, of FBI director Hoover (DiCaprio). Until now, it wasn’t clear how explicitly the relationship would be hinted at in the film, but Hammer has spoken to E! Online and revealed some details.

The actor said: “It’s not a kissing scene. It’s a ton of kissing scenes. I actually just met [DiCaprio] for the first time Saturday at the DGA Awards. He’s a talented actor. I’m not nervous or afraid of it being awkward. The script is great. The scenes are in there for a reason.”
