David Tennant talks Pirates, plasticine and secret projects
While lounging around his West End dressing room waiting to go on-stage to perform in Much Ado About Nothing, former timelord Tennant, talked Total Film through how he’s been keeping busy since stepping away from the Tardis.
First up he’s starring as a tight-trousered Las Vegas illusionist in the 3D update of Fright Night, then he’ll lend his voice to Aardman’s latest The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (released 28 March 2012).
He took time to talk to us about his work with Aardman animation, a top secret future project, and the possibility of returning to Doctor Who…
What’s The Greatest Movie Summer Ever?
We’re gonna post 6 of the greatest movie summers - reblog your favourite!
1985
Back To The Future: A perennial favourite at TF Towers, Robert Zemeckis’ good-natured time travel adventure pulls off the feat of being slick, giddily-enjoyable entertainment without ever feeling hollow. One for the ages.
The Goonies: The ’80s was a treasure chest for this sort of family fare: kid-orientated adventures with a palpable sense of awe. Richard Donner directs, but this is another summer hit which has producer Steven Spielberg’s DNA embedded in it.
Fright Night: Not the highest grossing horror flick of the year (A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 holds that honour), but no disappointment either, Fright Night won respect from genre fans and critics as it ran with its wickedly simple conceit: a horror fan suspects his next door neighbour of being a vampire. The remake has a lot to live up to…
Weird Science: John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club was also released in ‘85 (but, alas, it didn’t quite fall into the summer boundary lines). Inspired by Frankenstein, two geeks create a beautiful woman who helps them overcome domineering bullies, oppressive older brothers and their own crippling insecurities.
Teen Wolf: Michael J Fox’s second cult smash of the summer saw him playing Scott Howard, a high-schooler who discovers he has inherited his family’s werewolf gene. It’s not all bad though, as it seems to make him irresistible to women, as well as turning him into a superstar on the basketball court.
First Fright Night images revealed
A first batch of images have been released from the upcoming remake of teen vampire horror Fright Night.
Showing off most of the film’s principal cast (save David Tennant and Toni Collette), the biggest reveal is Colin Farrell as the vampire who moves in next door to Anton Yelchin’s teenager.
Then there’s Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Yelchin’s best friend, and Imogen Poots as his girlfriend.
While they’re nothing massively mind-blowing, the lighting alone makes Fright Night ‘11 look more Let Me In than Twilight.

David Tennant revealed as Peter Vincent
David Tennant’s re-interpretation of vamp-slaying showman Peter Vincent in the upcoming Fright Night remake has been revealed via a brand new banner for the film.
Gothed up to the nines, he almost looks like a new character from the latest Harry Potter flick – that bolt of mystical energy between his hands only adding to that feeling.
Clearly, the production has attempted a complete renovation of the ’80s flick for this Vegas-set update, something screamingly obvious in the new-look Vincent. It’s certainly a departure from Roddy McDowall’s portrayal.
