New trailer for The Hunger Games

A second theatrical trailer has been released for The Hunger Games, and after the action-centric first effort, this one is pleasingly heavy on dialogue.

The trailer opens with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) giving her younger sister Primrose a Mockingjay pin, of which she promises, “as long as you have it, nothing bad will happen to you.”

The Actor: The swoonsome star of BBC3’s Being Human (who would have known that matted, unwashed hair and grotty fingerless gloves could work so well together) and Desperate Romantics, Turner disappointed legions of fans when he announced he was leaving the former in pursuit of a career in Hollywood. A bold move…

Why So Hot? Or not so bold after all, given that he already had a role in The Hobbit safely in the bag. Turner will play Kili, one of the Dwarves who join Bilbo Baggins on the Quest of Erebor. Expect him to fill the heartthrob vacuum left by Viggo Mortensen. Not a bad way to make your Hollywood bow, is it?

The first full trailer for The Hunger Games has landed online.

Fans have been fervently waiting for a proper look at the movie, following on from a slightly lame teaser that revealed little last month.

Although this trailer gives a much better feel for what we can expect in the movie, it thankfully doesn’t go the whole hog and ruin the movie. In fact, it ends just as the games themselves begin.

Back in 2008, publishing houses the world over were looking high and low for that most elusive of properties, The Next Harry Potter. With Deathly Hallows having brought the boy wizard’s journey to a close (on the page anyway) the previous summer, there was a vacuum to be filled in the fantasy fiction market, and the time was right for the launch of a new franchise ostensibly aimed at young adults.

Enter Suzanne Collins, and her post-apocalyptic drama The Hunger Games. Set in an alternate future in the fictional country of Panem (a realm created amid the ruins of what used to be America), the book tells the story of sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, one of a group of teenage combatants in a state-organised, televised fight to the death. When civilisation crumbles, it would seem that broadcasting standards will be a thing of the past…

His older brother Chris will be appearing next year as Thor in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and now Liam Hemsworth has landed a role with his very own bunch of 2012 beefcakes.
 
Liam joins Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jean Claude Van-Damme, Chuck Norris and Randy Couture in Expendables 2, an action-sequel so masculine it could probably make men pregnant.
