Cannes 2011: Johnny Depp talks Pirates
Johnny Depp has been reflecting on the ups and downs of his pre-Pirates Of The Caribbean career. In Cannes for the premiere of fourquel On Stranger Tides, the star said: “For 20 years or so I made these films that were considered, for the most part, failures. “I built a career on flops, so I was quite comfortable in that arena. Then a couple of things hit.” Describing his life in film as “a very strange ride”, he added: “You have a film coming up and producers you haven’t spoken to in 15 years call and say ‘How’ve you been?’ “But then that film takes a dump and they don’t call you again until the next one’s coming up!” Talking up On Stranger Tides, he expressed how pleased he was to have Keith Richards reprise his role as Jack Sparrow’s old man. “It was great to get in the ring with him again,” Depp said. “And great to share a trailer with him. I may write a book on that one day.” As for the prospect of more Pirates sequels, Depp simply said: “As long as the people want it, I’m there.”
Johnny Depp and Rob Marshall remaking The Thin Man
Johnny Depp has officially signed on to star in the remake of Oscar-nominated 1934 film noir The Thin Man.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor has signed on to lead the new version of Dashiell Hammett’s film, with his Pirates 4 director Rob Marshall at the helm.
“John and I are overjoyed at the idea of working with Johnny again, especially on such a classy and classic project,” says Marshall.
“We are also thrilled to be partnering this time with such wonderful producers as Christi Dembroski and Kevin McCormick, and we are looking forward to working with Warner Bros. to create a reinvention of a beloved story.”
Probably the greatest Facebook Page in existence:
‘Orlando Blooms a total CUNT for not be in the new Pirate of Caribbean Film.’
Sam found this group on Facebook… it has so much win!
From the poor spelling, grammar and grasp of reality, to the fact that he says the ‘Johnny Depp is the only one who needs to sign’ and then says ‘Orlando… sign up for this great film you cunt!’
Check out this first and only comment from August 2009:
‘This man is a tit! I am so angry right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
Ryan Gosling in talks to join Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger
In a piece of casting speculation that’s so goddam cool we’ll probably cry if it doesn’t come into being, The Wrap has revealed that Ryan Gosling is in early talks to join Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger.
Depp has long been cast as Native American sidekick Tonto in the Disney movie, which will be directed by Pirates 1-3’s Gore Verbinski, but until now there’s been no indication of who could don the stetson and mask to play the Texas Ranger.
The report states that Gosling is in very early talks, and is keen to mention that his busy schedule (including a starring role in the Logan’s Run remake) could keep him from signing on here.
If he could find a way to make it work, Gosling would surely be the perfect foil to Depp’s Tonto. He’s got the matinee idol looks to play the hero, but he’s never afraid to subvert expectations when it comes to his leading man status.
Ian McShane signs on to Jack The Giant Killer
Fans of Lovejoy know that Ian McShane has always been awesome. But Hollywood is only just discovering his genius.
After having landed the big bad role of Blackbeard in the upcoming fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, McShane has now joined the cast of Jack the Giant Killer.
Starring fellow Brit Nicholas Hoult as the titular Jack, the film follows his expedition to save a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) who’s been kidnapped by a giant.
McShane has signed up to play the role of King Brahmwell, the princess’ disapproving father. We bet he’ll pair his crown with a swagger worthy of any true thesp.

Disney hire writer for Pirates 5
Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 opens this May, but Disney are so confident it’ll be a success that they’ve hired Shrek scribe Terry Rossio to begin writing a fifth film. Rossio has penned all four of the Pirates films thus far with writing partner Ted Elliot, though it appears that he’ll be walking the plank alone with the as-yet-untitled Pirates 5.
Pirates of the Caribbean 4: Everything We Know
3) Finding a source
When Pirates of the Caribbean 4 got its all-important subtitle, it sparked a great deal of interest. Unlike previous franchise entries, On Stranger Tides points to material that already exists, namely Tim Powers’ 1988 novel of the same name. Risky idea basing the fourth entry in a series on unrelated material? Well, there are a some coincidences. For example, the book features a pirate called Jack, and the plot fits in well with Sparrow’s search for the Fountain of Youth, which was hinted at towards the end of the last film. There’s also the character of Blackbeard, who’s set to make an intriguing addition to the series’ rogues’ gallery.

60 Movie Characters Who Should Get Married
29. Captain Jack Sparrow and Bellatrix Lestrange
Why? Because they’re the light and dark side of the same ramshackle, Victorian urchin-slang-speaking coin. Two peas in a pod.
The Wedding: An irritatingly rakish affair, with the “dearly beloved” replaced with a host of “me dearies” and “me hearties”.
The Honeymoon: The pair head to “Ye Olde England” to open a shoe-shining business with Russell Brand.
The Divorce: Voldemort casts a swift spell that strikes the duo dumb. Unable to bond over saucy witticisms, the pair inevitably drift apart.
