David Fincher talks The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Oscar chances
Total Film recently got together with David Fincher to discuss The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and talk turned to the movie’s Oscar chances.
Fincher had a near-miss with The Social Network at this year’s awards; the Facebook movie was a critics’ favourite, but The King’s Speech took home the big awards on the night…
Shia LaBeouf turned down The Social Network
Star of Transformers 3, Shia LeBeouf, has revealed that he turned down leading parts in The Social Network and 127 Hours.
He also walked away from talks to feature in future blockbusters The Bourne Legacy and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Official Girl With The Dragon Tattoo teaser online
A bloodless but by no means anaemic new teaser trailer for David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has been released online.
After the leak of the film’s red band first teaser over the weekend, this new, official teaser is basically exactly the same, just minus a few shots of Daniel Craig covered in blood (and a bit of Rooney Mara side-boob).
For those who still haven’t gotten acquainted with the titular tattooed girl, she’s Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), and is a computer hacker who ends up helping journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) as he invstigates the disappearance of a young woman years ago.
Armie Hammer will saddle up as the Lone Ranger
Social Network actor Armie Hammer has landed the lead role in Disney’s new movie version of The Lone Ranger.
After numerous casting rumours had suggested Ryan Gosling would be taking the role, Hammer was emerged as the victorious party – no doubt in part thanks to his stellar work in David Fincher’s film.
Based on the 1930s radio show and ‘40s TV series, Lone Ranger follows the titular hero and his sidekick Tonto, who combat injustice in the Old West.
Armie Hammer up for playing The Lone Ranger
The Social Network star Armie Hammer is currently in talks to join Johnny Depp in his film adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Hammer is interested in playing the titular ranger, the same role that Ryan Gosling previously flirted with before he was forced to bail thanks to scheduling conflicts. Depp has been attached to the film for some time, and will play Tonto, the Native American companion to the ranger.
Josh Pence bags a pivotal Dark Knight Rises role
Josh Pence has been cast in a key flashback role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, according to Heat Vision.
It’s a potentially spoilery role, so anyone hoping to go into the movie cold should probably stop reading now.
Pence will play the young Ra’s Al Ghul in flashback scenes that take place some 30 years before the current setting. He’s certainly got a look that would make him an uncannily-striking match for a young Liam Neeson.
Eisenberg, 27, revealed he’s still waiting for his next Hollywood role despite his nomination. He’d settle for a cameo role in the new Spider-Man film opposite co-star Andrew Garfield. ‘I’d do anything that involves Andrew’ he said.

The King’s Speech reigns at the BAFTAs
The King’s Speech emerged victorious at yesterday’s BAFTA awards ceremony, earning itself seven big wins – including Best Film and Outstanding British Film. Star Colin Firth won the Best Actor award, while Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter both bagged a Best Support trophy each. Toy Story 3 surprised absolutely nobody by winning the Best Animation award, while The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – ignored at this year’s Oscar noms – won Best Film Not In The English Language.
Inception also took home a clutch of technical awards, while Alice In Wonderland won for its costumes and make-up. Other contenders to King’s crown came in the form of Natalie Portman – who took home the Best Actress statuette for Black Swan – and David Fincher, who nabbed Best Director for Social Network.
TF favourite Tom Hardy also emerged victorious with the Orange Rising Star Award, beating other TF favourite Andrew Garfield, Aaron Johnson, Gemma Arterton and Emma Stone to the trophy.
As a sign of how things could play out at this year’s Oscars, these are exciting – if not exactly surprising – results.

With the Oscars marching ever closer (27 February, folks) and the BAFTAs taking place this Sunday, The London Critics’ Circle Awards were handed out last night. With The Social Network picking up Film of the Year, and Director of the Year for David Fincher, it’s still hard to guess which movie will end up taking home the Best Picture Oscar this year.
Andrew Garfield to tread down Back Roads
Spider-Man reboot star and all-round great guy Andrew Garfield has signed on to star in the movie adaptation of Tawni O’Dwell’s novel Back Roads. A murder mystery, the story follows a young man (Garfield) who’s charged with taking care of his three sisters when his mother is sent to prison for murdering his father.
