30 Greatest Movie Mash-Ups

6. Saw vs. Wallace & Gromit

Movies Being Mashed: You have to question the twisted imagination that would throw everyone’s favourite claymation double-act together with Jigsaw’s infernal torture machines. Then again, it is a little bit brilliant…

Anything In Common? Wallace and Jigsaw are both talented inventors, although whilst Wallace’s contraptions help butter his toast, Jigsaw’s rip people’s faces open.

If It Was A Full Length Film: Poor old Gromit would have a real fight on his hands. A penguin wearing a rubber glove on his head is one thing, but this…

The King’s Speech reigns at the BAFTAs
The King’s Speech emerged victorious at yesterday’s BAFTA awards ceremony, earning itself seven big wins – including Best Film and Outstanding British Film.

Star Colin Firth won the Best Actor award, while Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter both bagged a Best Support trophy each.

Toy Story 3 surprised absolutely nobody by winning the Best Animation award, while The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – ignored at this year’s Oscar noms – won Best Film Not In The English Language.
Inception also took home a clutch of technical awards, while Alice In Wonderland won for its costumes and make-up.

Other contenders to King’s crown came in the form of Natalie Portman – who took home the Best Actress statuette for Black Swan – and David Fincher, who nabbed Best Director for Social Network.
TF favourite Tom Hardy also emerged victorious with the Orange Rising Star Award, beating other TF favourite Andrew Garfield, Aaron Johnson, Gemma Arterton and Emma Stone to the trophy.

As a sign of how things could play out at this year’s Oscars, these are exciting – if not exactly surprising – results.

1. A Single Man“Sumptuous, passionate and utterly heartbreaking, Firth was robbed of a deserved Oscar by Jeff Bridges’ back catalogue of greatness rather than a better performance. Ford directs with the drive and ambition that took him to the top of the fashion world, and the same attention to style, detail and sex. A gorgeous film, that never rushes or leads, never judges or condemns, but immerses you in love, loss, despair and ultimately, hope.”2. Exit Through The Gift Shop3. Monsters4. Toy Story 35. Best & Worst: Threequels

Best: Toy Story 3 (2010)

We were initially dubious that, over 10 years later, Pixar would be able to recapture that old Toy Story magic for a threequel. As soon as the first trailer arrived, though, it was clear that this Part Three had the same ingredients that made the first two such big hits.

Not the ground-breaking animation (which remains peerless, and has gained an extra dimension here), but rather the characters and the story.

And director Lee Unkrich has been respectful to the passage of time (not happy to simply rehash earlier efforts), making Andy 10 years older and ready for college in this assault on your tear ducts.
