In a piece of casting news likely to induce nerdgasms the world over, Variety reports that Robocop star Peter Weller has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel.

Star Trek 2 next for JJ Abrams
JJ Abrams has confirmed that his next project will be Star Trek 2, following directorial duties on Super 8. 
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Abrams confirmed, “The next thing we’re working on, and hopefully we’ll be able to pass information out sooner or later, is the next Star Trek.” 
Paramount has set a release date of June 29 2012 for the sequel, but when asked if he would be able to hit that, he said, “I care much more that it be good than it be ready.”
